Wool donated, warmth given away
Craft & Coffee for Charity started with a group of five ladies, one October Monday morning in 2018. The idea was to make six lap blankets to donate to the elderly in an old people's home. The group grew to over 25 ladies from all walks of life and all ages, with others coming and going as they pleased. They would meet at Jacob's Brew with the same goal — to enjoy their craft, make new friends, sip coffee or tea, sometimes cake or biscuits, and stitch up beautiful things to donate. Thus bringing smiles and warmth to those receiving.
How apt is that — meeting up at a place where pay it forward is the order of the day. The love of crochet comes from donated yarn, so we, and you who have donated the yarn, are all paying it forward in a big way. We have warmed many hearts: the elderly in various homes, the homeless, children in poorer countries, residents in mental homes, Hospice Malta and oncology patients, Survivors Malta and many more.
Since the pandemic the dynamics of the group have changed. Now we are still collecting donated yarn and crafting materials so as to distribute them to the active ageing day centres all over the Maltese islands — giving the elderly a purpose through their craft by encouraging them to use their talents to handcraft tokens of kindness, and in turn donating them to us to give out with our coffee run packages to families in need of support.
Yarn is constantly being used and stitched up, so wool donations are always welcome and can be dropped off at Jacob's Brew. Many thanks and much love.
